The content of this module allows establishing a first contact with the aeronautical world, providing an overview of the aviation industry and the role Airbus and its military section on the world stage. Knowing the current products and their level of market penetration, as well as a historical review of the company. Additionally, key aspects of leading and managing people in the company will be also presented: leadership model, diversity, values, etc…

The contents include: vocabulary definition and terminology usually related to aeronautics field; an overview of global aviation world, including product lines, markets, competitors, manufacturers, operators, etc; and a brief description of how to steer the aviation business, supported by business models, industrial plans, general economic plans, etc., compared with other businesses and scenarios.

In this module, metallic and composite materials are studied as the main aeronautical materials. The mechanical behavior of these materials is described, as well as the basis for the design of the main structural components under their service loads.

Finally, the structural design of airframes is addressed, analyzing different types of airframes from the early days of aviation to the present day.

This module is intended to provide a general overview of the architecture and operation of aircraft systems (for both civil and military aircrafts) together with the required system integration technology. It starts with a sequential review of avionic systems; hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; flight control system; landing gear; fuel management and powerplant; and mission and weapon systems. Finally, the problem of system integration is addressed, providing a general overview of architectures and system integration technologies.

This module first discusses different manufacturing strategies and the corresponding production processes. Strategic planning, including aspects of facility location, capacity, and production volumes, is then outlined using quantitative techniques. Before studying the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP), basic inventory models are presented. The MRP is later analyzed, followed by the study of flow lines systems. These concepts are then revisited from a practical perspective, exposing how they are integrated in the AIRBUS production system in both structures manufacturing and final assembly lines. The module ends with an introduction to logistics in the AIRBUS specific context and the exposition of aspects of facility management.

This module reviews the main manufacturing technologies used in the aeronautical industry, providing the fundamentals of the main manufacturing processes, their capabilities, and applications.

The contents are organized in two stages. The first one describes the technological fundamentals of the most relevant manufacturing processes for metal forming, machining and riveting processes, composite manufacturing processes and the manufacture and assembly of electrical harnesses used in the aeronautical industry. The second describes, with a more practical and applied orientation, the specific equipment and machines, their technological capabilities and the most representative types of parts produced for different current aircraft programs.

The target of this module is to provide basic knowledge about quality and its management. Quality in aerospace plays a key role as it is ensuring Safety, becoming a key element in the aviation industry and being highly regulated. But also Quality plays a key role to achieve excellence in the processes and the products. Along this module the concepts and techniques are discussed to understand Quality Systems, Tools and Methods of Quality Management, Standardization and Certification regulations, etc. both its generality and its application to the aviation industry. Given the cross-cutting nature of Quality, the general concepts are taught at the beginning of the module, and ad-hoc applications are included in the modules of Aerostructures, Final Assembly Line and Supply Chain.

Lean Manufacturing is one of the keys to being excellent in manufacturing and other organizations. This module overviews the basic aspects and tools to transfer into the aerospace industry, and concretely into OES (Operational Excellence System). Finally, we go through real situation exercises about how to deploy and measure the OES and concrete tools deployment into shopfloor to have a practical experience to personal use in future situations.

The aim of this module is to familiarise students with the assembly process of aerostructures, looking for a pragmatic approach to the industrial process. The module moves from the development stage to delivery of the final element to the customer, including industrialisation of the process, planning, workload analysis, manufacturing process, balancing, etc. It technically focusses on critical activities within the assembly and joining process of an aerostructure . In addition, the role of Quality as a necessary support area in any process is also highlighted.

From feasibility phase up to serial production, Manufacturing Engineering is the discipline that endorses the competencies needed to design, define, implement, and optimize the industrial system needed to run any aerospace program. These competences (concurrence, development, industrialization, line support, material review board, jigs and tools and ground tests) are explained in detail during this module, combining lectures and practical visits to assembly lines facilities where students will learn real case studies.

This module provides a detailed introduction to MRO and continuous airworthiness. The need of an MRO Centre, the regulation environment, and Part 145 Maintenance Organizations is explained. A description of the main authorities is provided in both civil and military frameworks (AESA (Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea), PERAM (Publicación Española de Requisitos de Aeronavegabilidad Militares), DGAM (Dirección General de Armamento Militar). The organizational structure of a standard MRO Centre, the main stakeholders, the customer relations, the MOE and MOM, the certifying staff and the aircraft modifications implementation are discussed in detail. The CAMO (Continuous Airworthiness Management Organization) roles and responsibilities, the referenced documentation, the nominal and programmed maintenance, and line maintenance are also shared. Finally, the aircraft maintenance management, behind an MRO event, the budgeting activities, the people management, the customer expectations, and the time needed to have the aircraft back to service.

Los participantes serán asignados a diferentes proyectos reales en las factorías de AIRBUS y ATEXIS, participando en el desarrollo real de los mismos. Dichos proyecto tratarán de profundizar en los aspectos estudiados durante las sesiones teóricas añadiendo un punto de vista práctico. En general, los objetivos que se pretenden alcanzar son: (1) Estudiar el funcionamiento de los distintos departamentos, centrándose en el conocimiento de los problemas de gestión y técnicos de algún departamento de la compañía; (2) Integrar diversos aspectos de organización a partir de consideraciones técnicas de los procesos de fabricación y ensamblaje; (3) Conocer las relaciones inter-departamentales y los flujos de información; y (4) Profundizar en la mejora de alguno de los procesos existentes.

El proyecto consiste en el desarrollo de un trabajo académico que incorpore el análisis de aspectos técnicos y de gestión de alguno de los temas desarrollados en el curso. El trabajo se realizará de manera individual o en grupo, dependiendo de la envergadura del mismo. La presentación de resultados y su defensa pública será individual. Cada participantes contará con la tutorización del trabajo en la empresa y en la universidad.
